ASPO
OBJECTIVES

Founded in 1981 as the Association for Animal Shelter Administrators of Ontario, a group of animal welfare professionals came together with the goal of advancing high standards and professionalism in their industry.

Over the last 40 years, the association has acted as the voice for animal care, control and welfare professionals across the province. Our members consist of shelter administrators, supervisors, registered veterinary technicians, frontline staff, as well as associate members from government, pet-related industries and businesses.

Fast forward to 2023 - we have adopted a new name that reflects the advancement of professionalism in our field and represents all active members equally: Animal Shelter Professionals of Ontario (ASPO).

Objectives

Recognize, enhance and promote the image and professionalism of animal care, control and welfare organizations.

Serve as an umbrella association to support, cooperate and liaise with government, organizations and individuals who have an interest in the animal care, control and welfare fields in Ontario.

Provide educational opportunities for people who have an interest in the animal care, control and welfare fields.

Share knowledge and promote all aspects of progressive and innovative animal care, control and welfare programs and models.
